Its well known that our first lessons in finances start during our formative years as we grow up. And as the child of divorced parents who spent a good amount of time in each household, my life was the tale of two cities. In one household, I observed the stiffening of shoulders as each grocery item was rung up. In the other household, we went out to restaurants regularly and with seemingly no care to what the total bill was going to be.
With one foot in the door of each of these realities, I grew up to understand that money was powerful, but I was mystified by what caused the differences I experienced.
When I graduated college and got married, my husband and I were introduced to a financial professional who provided us with my first taste of a financial education in adulthood, and ignited a passion in me to help other people learn about finances. I got licensed and began helping individuals and families learn about their finances and different financial products.
And yet, something was missing. As I worked with different individuals and families, some who were just starting out and others who were further along in life, I began to see that financial education, while a powerful first step, could only take one so far on the path to their financial goals. I realized that the only way to truly build a life where you actually reached your financial goals was to have the skills, attitudes, and beliefs needed to get there.
And so Build Bright Financial Coaching was born.
